Hey Look Everybody, It's My November Look at the Day's Headlines

Navy ship named for Harvey Milk

In the summer of 2020 I started printing headlines from various news sources and writing comments about them that were either pithy, snarky, wise or brilliantly on point (or a combination thereof). The response was so overwhelming (thank you, Blaze Burnhotter of  Anaconda, Montana) that I have made this is a monthly feature -- to enthusiastic acclaim. Here then is the November 2021 edition of this critically-acclaimed feature.

From the New York Times:

Bans on Critical Race Theory Threaten Free Speech, Advocacy Group Says

That seems to be the idea. The right doesn't like people to talk about issues around race, even from the past. This is most likely because of their own latent racism and the risk that such conversations will further expose them.

‘Finally!’ Reunions Begin as U.S. Lifts Travel Ban for Many

"Finally" is right. The separation of immigrant families is one of the cruelest actions in the annals of this country's history.

U.S. Covid Deaths Get Even Redder

Cause and effect. The idiots are anti-vax and anti-mask, they're going to pay the price. You'd think they put two and two together but simple math is beyond them.

From CNN:

What's next for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers?

People and organizations and sponsors are distancing themselves from Rodgers for his tinfoil hat views on Covid-19 and vaccinations. Whatever bad comes his way will be deserved. Couldn't happen to a bigger jerk.

Ted Cruz has found the real vaccine enemy: Big Bird

Leave it to Republicans to waste time taking on a beloved Sesame Street character. Big Bird's sin? Getting vaccinated. In other words, doing what's right and makes sense and is backed by science and medicine. The stupid blowhard Ted Cruz was particularly triggered by the large avian's actions. Put him in a bozo outfit.

US Navy launches ship named for gay rights activist Harvey Milk

Great news. Milk remains a hero to many. That the military is honoring a gay icon and an important historical figure is encouraging.

From BBC:

Obama tells young people to stay angry on climate fight

Wise words. They should be -- you should excuse the expression -- hella pissed. Older generations have made the climate crisis worse while failing to adequately address it. Maybe angry young people will be the impetus for real change.

Singapore halts execution of man with low IQ

A far cry from the attitude in red states here in the U.S. In places like Texas, Americans will execute anyone no matter their condition.

Afghans facing 'hell on earth' as winter looms

The Afghans are looking at mass famine. Of course the rise of the Taliban is in large part responsible for the coming catastrophe. Anyone else hate the Taliban?

From The Washington Post:

Phony religious objections to vaccines will hurt us all

Not only will "phony"religious objections end up hurting everyone, but so will "legitimate" religious objections. If you're a member of a religion that tells you not to get vaccinated, tell them to fuck off.

Progressives ‘incredibly pessimistic’ they’ll get what they want in social spending bill

This is too depressing to comment on. I've had a difficult time following the progress of the bill. There is so much in it that is supported by the majority of Americans, yet a group of senators who represent a minority are blocking progress. Our political system is very badly broken and who suffers but the poor and disadvantaged and marginalized. Who benefits but the already wealthy.

A Southwest flight attendant suspected human trafficking. It was just a mixed-race family flying to a funeral.

Racism 101.
